History

Bottle Bay gets its name from the bottle shape of the inlet. The bay has been a popular steamboat excursion point, a picnic place, a resort for hunting and fishing, a timber harvesting location, and a commercial fishing hot spot.

During the 1890s and early 1900s, steamboats became the popular mode of transportation around the lake. Since there were no roads to many communities, steamboats enabled settlers to access more remote areas along the lake and eventually settle there. Throughout the early 1900s, steamboats made excursions for picnics to Bottle Bay, and in July 1903, dances were held at the Bottle Bay Pavilion and Summer Resort. 

There are a few public access points around Bottle Bay. The Marina itself is private, and came into existence when David and Rose Sloan purchased five acres here in 1963 and began to develop the resort.
