History

The Nesbitt family gained ownership of this property in 1928. Their son Robert Nesbitt grew up in Bonner County, and worked as a heavy equipment operator. 

In 1996, at the age of 76, Robert donated this 85 acres of prime lakefront property to the state of Idaho for a public park in memory of his wife Enid. With 1,700 feet of shoreline, the land was valued even then at multiple millions of dollars.

Nesbitt opted to give the land to the public rather than his children to preserve the space undeveloped, and to prevent family squabbles over money. He said his children “accepted it as something their mother and I wanted to do, and it will be a wonderful memorial to my wife.” 

Enid Pierce Nesbitt was born in a log cabin on Feb 12, 1921, in Sagle, Idaho. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and dancing. She died on November 5, 1994.
