History

Evans Landing is less crowded than many of the other public beaches in the area, since it is accessible only by hiking trail and boat. The written history of the site is similarly sparse. The spot is named for an early mining promoter, James Evans, a pioneer who arrived in 1888. A miner's cabin is shown on Evan’s Landing on the 1910 Government Land Office Map. Evans is reported to have drowned or disappeared at the age of 72. According to a 1934 Northern Idaho News edition, he was on his way back from Talache when he was caught in a storm, and never showed up to drop off his supplies as planned.
