History

There are multiple stories involving men dying near this spot, and the definitive reason for the name is unknown. 

The old Green Mine is near this area, and surviving historical photograph records detail a scene of two murdered miners, Pat Welch and Howard Shipley, at the Green Mine. The photo record details that they were murdered by “deranged man” Harry Franger. The story is that the murderer stopped at the Croy residence for a handout, just prior to stealing a gun from the house next door. He later used the gun to murder the two old miners.
