History
This popular sandy swimming beach is part of Farragut State Park, and has been featured often in historic photographs of Scout Jamborees that took place at Farragut. Farragut hosted the World Scout Jamboree in 1967, the only time prior to 2019 that the worldwide event was held in the United States. The park — and this beach specifically — hosted a number of national Scouting events as well. While traveling to the moon aboard Apollo 11 on July 18, 1969, astronaut Neil Armstrong extended a greeting to the Scouts attending a national jamboree at this park.
