History

Granite Creek became a community during the 1880s when mining started to develop in the area. Mineral records indicate that claims were being recorded near here as early as 1883. Many more were recorded between 1888 and 1889, and a newspaper account told of an excellent wagon road leading to the mines from the landing. After mining interest waned, homesteading and logging kept the community going for several years.
